What makes intelligence efficient?
A draft research direction around capability, resources and the machines people already have.

Abstract preview
An efficient system does useful work within its constraints. Those constraints may include memory, energy, time or the hardware available to a person. A smaller model is not automatically the better choice: if it needs repeated attempts or produces unusable answers, the complete workflow may consume more resources.
Define the comparison
Start with the task and a quality threshold. Then compare the resources required to reach that threshold under the same conditions. Report the complete path, including loading, preprocessing and retries. Separate measurements made on a device from estimates about how another machine might behave.
Limits of this draft
This is a research framing draft, not a completed study. It contains no experimental results, new-method claim or submitted manuscript. A future paper would need a reproducible task, explicit baselines and measurements before drawing conclusions.
